Kaunas is the second largest city in Lithuania but it is one of the greenest cities in the whole country. Also, it is the city where large parks and residential areas perfectly co-exist – so you can move in and find a wonderful piece of forest just a few feet away as well as large parks right at the centre of the city. Perfect for walks, picnics or just leisurely day out.
Kaunas is also a great city for your everyday commute and simply getting around. The city is quite compact and you can reach any place in 30 minutes by car. There are no traffic jams and you can chose a more ecological means of transportation – bicycles or public transport, which is a really convenient way to get around the city.

Parks & Leisure
Kaunas is the second largest city in Lithuania but it is one of the greenest cities in the whole country. Green areas are not only surrounding Kaunas – you can find them right at the centre of our city: from Santaka Park in the very centre of the city to Ąžuolynas (literally, “Oak Grove”) covering about 63 hectares. Ąžuolynas is the largest urban stand of mature oaks in Europe – most of its trees are oaks ranging in age from 100 to 320 years old.
Kaunas intends to become the first city in the Baltic States that is fully tailored for cyclists. New fully bicycle adapted green lanes will be created in the busiest regions of the city, new low speed zones, bicycle friendly pavements and a network of 1,000 new bicycle holders will be installed in the city center, at cultural institutions, cafes, and other attractions.
