European Night of Museums in Kaunas, May 17th

Ready to discover the magic of the night in Kaunas museums? A night when art doesn’t sleep – and neither should you! On May 17, European Museum Night returns with everything from historical exhibitions to creative workshops, interactive experiences, and special performances. Most museums will be open until 10 PM, giving you plenty of time to explore culture and still catch the Eurovision final at home. For those who couldn’t care less about the contest – art awaits until midnight. Entry is free of charge for most events (though some may require registration)

M. K. Čiurlionis National Museum of Art

V. Putvinskio g. 55, Kaunas
Opening hours: 17:00–24:00 (last admission at 23:30)

Only permanent exhibitions will be open during the event. Accessible to visitors with mobility impairments. Admission is free.

As every year, the museum and its branches invite visitors to spend the evening surrounded by art, creativity, and unexpected discoveries. The programme includes educational activities, creative workshops, games, and a special musical premiere inspired by M. K. Čiurlionis’ work. Kaunas Picture Gallery

K. Donelaičio g. 16, Kaunas
Opening hours: 17:00–24:00 (last admission at 23:30)

On Museum Night, Kaunas Picture Gallery invites visitors to return to the world of childhood through exhibitions, educational activities, and creative workshops. The evening will conclude with an intimate meeting with a contemporary artist. Some activities require prior registration. Full programme available on the museum’s website.

A. Žmuidzinavičius Creations and Collections Museum / Devils’ Museum

V. Putvinskio g. 64, Kaunas
Opening hours: 17:00–24:00 (last admission at 23:30)
Memorial exhibition open until 20:00. Admission is free.

This exceptional museum invites visitors to an evening full of creativity and mystery: from imagination-sparking garden workshops to night-time installations throughout the museum. Vytautas the Great War Museum

K. Donelaičio g. 64, Kaunas
Opening hours: 18:00–24:00

This year’s Museum Night programme is dedicated to the history of Lithuanian military engineering, marking the 30th anniversary of the Colonel Juozas Vitkus Engineering Battalion. Visitors can enjoy a rich programme ranging from free tours to concerts inside the museum and in its courtyard. More information on the museum’s website.

Military Equipment Exhibition

K. Baršausko g. 101, Kaunas

The exhibition offers guided tours through military technology and the rarely opened spaces of the Kaunas Fortress. Due to limited space, advance registration is required by phone: +370 660 07135.

Kaunas City Museum

On May 17, during the European Night of Museums, five departments of the Kaunas City Museum invite visitors to experience the city through all senses:

  • Kaunas Town Hall (Rotušės a. 15): exhibitions, educational activities, and sensory workshops.
  • Kaunas Castle (Pilies g. 17): a medieval encounter with archery and archaeology.
  • Folk Music Museum (L. Zamenhofo g. 12): explore Lithuanian folk instruments and music traditions, also suitable for children.
  • Mikas and Kipras Petrauskas House (K. Petrausko g. 31): exhibition opening, lecture, tours, and children’s activities.
  • Juozas Gruodis House (Salako g. 18): open during the day; visitors are invited to explore the composer’s home and enjoy tea.

Ninth Fort Museum of Kaunas

Žemaičių pl. 75, Kaunas
Programme: 18:00–23:00

The museum invites visitors to spend the night meaningfully with free access to exhibitions and a musical storytelling performance under the open sky. Meeting point: in front of the museum’s administration building (Žemaičių pl. 71).

Historical Presidential Palace of the Republic of Lithuania

Vilniaus g. 33, Kaunas
Opening hours: 17:00–22:00 (last admission at 21:30)

Visitors are invited to participate in the engaging city game “NEABEJINGOS (“Those Who Care”): Be inspired by Kaunas Women!”. The route leads through city spaces revealing the achievements of interwar women. Advance registration is recommended. Full programme available on the museum’s website.

House of Basketball of Lithuania

Santakos g. 11, Kaunas
Opening hours: 18:00–22:00

A creative and interactive evening awaits: from batik workshops and educational sessions on the origins of Lithuanian basketball to a screening of the documentary “The Ticket”. Activities for fans and curious minds alike.

Juozas Zikaras House-Museum

J. Zikaro g. 3, Kaunas
Opening hours: 17:00–22:00 (last admission at 21:30)
Admission is free.

The museum offers themed tours exploring the life and work of sculptor Juozas Zikaras. Advance registration recommended by phone: +370 684 84 335.

Galaunė House-Museum

Vydūno al. 2, Kaunas
Opening hours: 17:00–22:00 (last admission at 21:30)
Admission is free.

The evening programme is dedicated to books and reading, featuring creative workshops, tours, and artistic improvisations combining poetry, music, and visual art. Full programme available on the museum’s website.

Lithuanian  Museum of Education

Vytauto pr. 52, Kaunas
Opening hours: 19:00–22:00
Admission is free.

Visitors are invited to a sensory journey “In the Rhythm of Colours”, where each exhibition space is lit with a symbolic colour to convey a distinct mood.

Lithuanian Aviation Museum

Veiverių g. 132, Kaunas
Opening hours: 18:00–22:00

Visitors can explore aviation history, participate in creative workshops and try out flight simulators. Advance registration is required for some activities. Full programme on the museum’s website.

Lithuanian Sports Museum

Muziejaus g. 7, Kaunas
Opening hours: 17:00–23:00

The museum offers free access to exhibitions, sports games, and guided tours on Lithuania’s sporting heritage. More information available on the museum’s website.

Tadas Ivanauskas Zoological Museum

Laisvės al. 106, Kaunas
Opening hours: 18:00–22:00

Visitors are invited to discover the nocturnal world of animals through exhibitions, sound experiences, and educational activities.

Maironis Museum of Lithuanian Literature

Rotušės a. 13, Kaunas
Opening hours: 18:00–23:00

Visitors can explore permanent exhibitions, take part in educational activities, workshops and an orientation game. A children’s zone will be open in the museum courtyard. Full programme on the Maironis museum’s website.

Science Island

Opening hours: 18:00–23:00

Science Island joins the nationwide Museum Night and Street Music Day celebrations – on 17 May, the festival of discoveries will continue until 11 p.m.
