Experience INCH BY INCH, a dance performance-tour through Žaliakalnis, where history, memory, and art converge. Created by ULNA in partnership with Kaunas – European Capital of Culture 2022, this event highlights the district’s past and present.
The tour starts at the Kaukas Stairway, reknowned as Lithuania’s most beautiful stairway and steeped in local folklore. Žaliakalnis, a green hill encircling the city canter, became a residential district during the urban development of the 20th century.
Through dance, theatre, and music, you will explore Žaliakalnis’s transformation over the decades. With headphones, you become part of the performance, guided by voices, stories, and soundscapes that accompany contemporary dance along the route.
This tour offers a performative exploration of Žaliakalnis’s community, architecture, and cultural heritage. Experience the district’s beauty through aesthetic, historical, and documentary perspectives.

The tour is conducted in English and takes place on foot. The audio track is transmitted through headphones provided to each participant. The tour is guided by a leader of the ULNA dance company. The soundtrack heard through the headphones is illustrated by contemporary dance etudes performed in urban spaces.
ULNA Dance Company: founded in 2020 by choreographer Indrė Puišytė–Šidlauskienė. It is an open space for creation and education, interacting with various cultural and artistic disciplines, a platform for artistic initiatives of young choreographers. Together with partners, ULNA initiates and carries out various social and educational dance projects throughout Lithuania.
