Visit museums for free on the last Sunday of the month

Have you ever wondered how many undiscovered stories, art pieces, and interesting exhibits are hidden in the museums of Kaunas? We have great news for you –on the last Sunday of every month, you can explore most of Kaunas’ museums free of charge! It is a great opportunity to get to know the city’s heritage, find out new facts, and dive deep into the culture of Kaunas.

Various museums open their doors for you on the free museum Sundays – from literature and art to history and technology. It is a great activity for family, friends, or even solo adventures. Are you ready for new discoveries?

  • Vytautas the Great War Museum (K. Donelaičio g. 64, Kaunas). Opening hours: 10.00-17.00. The ticket office closes 30 minutes before the end of working hours. We invite you to visit our permanent exhibitions and the exhibition “ANBO I(00)”.
  • Exposition of Military Equipment (K. Baršausko g. 101, Kaunas). Tours will be held every hour from 10.00 to 15.00. Advance registration for tours is required by calling +370 660 07135.
  • The Underground Printing House “ab” (Spaustuvės g. 2, Domeikava). Visitors can visit the Printing House from 10.00 to 17.00 for free tours. Registration is needed: +370 601 86521.

Maironis Lithuanian Literature Museum departments:

  • Maironis Lithuanian Literature Museum (Rotušės a. 13, Kaunas). Opening hours: 10.00-17.00. The exhibition and exposition area welcomes its final visitors 30 minutes before closing.
  • Children’s Literature Museum (K. Donelaičio g. 13, Kaunas). Opening hours: 10.00-16.00. The exhibition and exposition area welcomes its final visitors 30 minutes before closing. Visiting the permanent exhibition is free of charge, but due to the large number of visitors, access to the second floor of the museum, where the characters’ costumes are kept, will be restricted.
  • Balys and Vanda Sruogos House-Museum (B. Sruogos g. 21, Kaunas). Opening hours: 10.00-16.00. The exhibition and exposition area welcomes its final visitors 30 minutes before closing.
  • Salomėja Nėris and Bernardas Bučas House-Museum (S. Nėries g. 7, Kaunas). CLOSED FOR RENOVATION. Opening hours: 10.00-16.00. The exhibition and exposition area welcomes its final visitors 30 minutes before closing.
  • Juozas Grušas House-Museum (Kalniečių g. 93, Kaunas). Opening hours: 10.00-16.00. The exhibition and exposition area welcomes its final visitors 30 minutes before closing.
  • Juozas Tumas-Vaižgantas Apartment-Museum (Aleksoto g. 10-4, Kaunas). Opening hours: 10.00-16.00. The exhibition and exposition area welcomes its final visitors 30 minutes before closing.
  • Please note that tickets are required to visit the temporary exhibitions.

Kaunas Ninth Fort

  • Kaunas Ninth Fort (Žemaičių plentas 75, Kaunas). DUE TO TECHNICAL ISSUES, THE KAUNAS NINTH FORT MUSEUM WILL BE CLOSED (JANUARY 23–25). Opening hours: 10.00-18.00 (visitors are welcome until 17.30). Free entrance tickets must be picked up at the ticket office, located at Žemaičių pl. 73, Kaunas. Please note that the exhibition “In the shoes of Lithuanian partisans…” will be closed on the last Sunday of the month.
  • Lithuanian Museum of Education (Vytauto pr. 52, Kaunas). Opening hours: 10.00-16.00 (Visitors are welcome until 15.30).
  • Kaunas museum – Kaunas Town Hall (Rotušės a. 15, Kaunas). Opening hours: 12.00-17.00 (Visitors are welcome until 16.30).
  • Open-air museum of Lithuania (L. Lekavičiaus g. 2, Rumšiškės). Opening hours: 10.00-16.00. On January 25, the last free tickets will be issued at the museum ticket office until 15.00, and the museum grounds will be open to visitors free of charge until 16.00. After 16.00, free tickets will no longer be valid – only tickets for the light installation festival “Enchanted Valley” will be valid. From 17.00, only festival tickets will be sold.   • Museum of Lithuanian Aviation (Veiverių g. 132, Kaunas). Opening hours: 10.00-16.00 (outside exposition). Visitors are admitted to the exhibition no later than 30 minutes before the end of the opening hours. Free tickets must be picked up at the box office on the day of the visit.
